Instruct-ERIC Signs MOU with CEBEM and all Members
Instruct-ERIC is delighted to announce that it has signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with CEBEM (Centro de Biología Estructural del Mercosur), the structural biology research network in Latin America.
This MOU is significant for Instruct, in that “All members of CEBEM will hold an MOU with Instruct”.
Instruct holds periodic calls for researchers in international institutions to receive funded access to Instruct technologies and expertise, open to organisations that hold an MOU with Instruct. As a result of this MOU, researchers in the following institutions are now eligible to utilise Instruct infrastructure as part of these periodic calls:
- lnstituto de Física de São Carlos (IFSC), Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil. Richard Garratt & João Renato Carvalho Muniz
- Centro Nacional de Resonancia Magnetica Nuclear (CNRMN), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Jerson Lima da Silva & Fabio Almeida
- Instituto de Química (IQ), Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil. Chuck Farah & Roberto Kopke Salinas
- Laboratório Nacional de Nanotecnología (LNNano), Centro Nacional de Pesquisa em Energia e Materiais, Brasil. Rodrigo Villares Portugal

- Centro de Investigaciones en Bionanociencias (CIBION), Argentina. Mariano Dellarole & Fernando Stefani
Prof. Harald Schwalbe, Director of Instruct-ERIC, commented, “Instruct-ERIC is convinced of the importance of the international interaction with our colleagues in the Latin Americas. Intensified scientific research will foster the impact that integrated structural biology can provide to contribute to overcoming major societal and scientific challenges today. We are happy and proud to strengthen our network.”
Dr Felipe Trajtenberg, Coordinator of CEBEM, commented “We are thrilled to renew this collaboration with Instruct-ERIC. This partnership not only enhances access to advanced technologies for our researchers, but also reinforces the spirit of cooperation within the structural biology communities.”
This follows a previous MOU with CEBEM which had been signed in 2018. Both organisations have a long and successful history of bringing together structural biologists in both Europe and Latin America, collaborating as part of the EU-LAC ResInfra project, and facilitating the signature of MOU between Instruct and several other Latin American institutions – the full list can be found here.
Instruct and CEBEM previously collaborated on the Landscape Analysis Report of Structural Biology in Latin America, which undertook in-depth interviews with researchers in the region to understand the environment of structural biology research in Latin America, as well as the challenges to carry out excellent research.
