The Instruct Centre at EMBL Heidelberg provides access to cutting-edge cryo-EM instrumentation
The Instruct Centre EMBL-Heidelberg specialises in high-resolution cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) of biological samples, supporting users for single-particle and tomography projects.
Based in the new EMBL Imaging Centre the cryo-EM platform hosts a Glacios and a Titan Krios equipped with a Falcon 4EC direct electron detector. Both microscopes are also equipped with an automatic sample loading system and configured for automatic data acquisition.
This facility provides users with imaging services across different scales of resolution from molecules to organisms. The centre staff supports users with project planning, sample preparation, microscope selection and operation, providing full-service sample handling and data collection, and organises courses and workshops to external visitors at different levels. The Imaging Centre at EMBL Heidelberg is accessible for in person visits, or can be accessed fully remotely.
EMBL-Heidelberg is situated in Heidelberg, a university town located about 80km south of Frankfurt, Germany. Heidelberg population is about 160.000, roughly quarter of which are students.
EMBL is a 10-15 minute drive from Heidelberg city center and main railway station. Address: EMBL, Meyerhofstraße 1, 69117 Heidelberg, Germany
EMBL Heidelberg has its own guest houses, providing accommodation for the visitors, as well as excellent canteen and cafeteria on site, and meeting rooms.
For more information on how to reach EMBL please visit accomodation and travel.
The Imaging Centre at EMBL Heidelberg gives access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM equipment for structure determination projects using the latest technology and methods in single-particle analysis, cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) and Cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy (Cryo-CLEM).
