The 4th Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Conference will take place in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, from May 22 till May 24, 2019. The historical Alcalá de Henares was the original location of the Universidad Complutense, founded in 1293 and one of the oldest universities in the world, as well as being the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes. The social programme of the meeting will include a visit to the city, a gala dinner and extensive opportunities to network with the Instruct Structural Biology community.

Instruct is a distributed European Research Infrastructure, which provides scientists with access to all major cutting edge technologies that enable biomacromolecular structure determination at atomic resolution. Access to all of these technologies has been available to European member researchers from February 2012.

The inaugural Instruct Structural Biology Meeting at Heidelberg in 2013 successfully showcased integrative structural biology and its impact on biological research and biomedicine. The second Biennial took place in Florence in 2015 continuing the integrative line with an increased focus on innovation. The last edition which took place in Brno in the Czech Republic included sessions representing recent structural biology highlights, emerging methods and technologies and results of biomedical importance. We have already confirmed outstanding speakers for this 4th edition and we are looking forward to see you there.

€65 for participants from Instruct Countries

€450 for participants from non-Instruct Countries

This will cover attendance, coffee breaks, lunch and conference gala. There will be additional costs for accommodation.

Abstract Submission Deadlines:

Abstract submission: March 1st 2019 | Registration closed: April 1st 2019 | Student fellowship: March 1st 2019

Abstract submissions from registered applicants will be selected for poster presentations and four abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. The poster size should be A0 and in portrait orientation.

Getting to Alcalá de Henares

From the airport (Barajas Madrid international airport) by bus:

There is a direct bus from the airport to Alcalá de Henares, number 824. The timetable is available here. The journey time is approximately 50 minutes.

From the airport by taxi:

You can also take a taxi from the airport to your hotel in Alcalá. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes.

From the airport using subway and train:

A train to Alcalá de Henares can be taken at Nuevos Ministerios or Chamartin station.

From Nuevos Ministerios: To go there, you must first take the subway (“Metro”) at the airport. It is located in the middle of Terminal T2 (corridor connecting to Parking P2, 1st floor). The subway station is called Aeropuerto. You can find it on the map here.

Nuevos Ministerios is also a train station, where you must take the RENFE urban train (“CERCANÍAS”) to Alcalá de Henares. There are three lines connecting Nuevos Ministerios with Alcalá de Henares (lines C-1, C-2 and C-7). More information is available from the RENFE website. The journey from the airport to Alcala de Henares should take approximately 60-75 minutes.

From Chamartin station:

Line C1: Príncipe Pío - Atocha - Recoletos - Chamartín - T4 Airport

Line C1 of Renfe Cercanías runs from terminal T4 of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport to the city centre.

At Chamartin station you must take the RENFE urban train (“CERCANÍAS”) to Alcalá de Henares. There are three lines connecting Chamartin with Alcalá de Henares (lines C-1, C-2 and C-7).
